pict We know Sara through her brother, Toni. She has just moved to Amsterdam. The Sassi and Matera are places of her childhood and her youth, that she is leaving for a long time. From the flat roof of her house you have a view over the Sasso Caveoso. Her gaze glances over the old maze of houses, some of them half broken down, over the roofs overgrown with plants, unpaved alleyways, down to the Gravina gorge. Sara is fascinated by the overwhelming drama of the landscape, for her the man-made elements seem to have been almost overcome by nature.
Only Italians can talk so eloquently, in such a lively and poetic way, about the place they love. But for Sara there are also reasons why she has to leave: Speculators and the cultural standstill, as she calls it. Nevertheless she is already thinking about moving back, but only when she is older and has found peace.
